Why would anyone want to be courageous when it’s so much easier to just give up?
To run away. To disappear.
To look in the mirror. To look at life.
To frown. To turn away.
People are mean sometimes. And the world could be a real tough place. But perhaps, the meanest of all critiques and the harshest of all accusers lie within ourselves.
I heard that failure is a bruise, and not a tattoo. And it won’t stay on you for long… unless you beat yourself over and over again.
And isn’t this true?

We don’t have to be super heroes or go on an adventure.
We don’t have to dress all fancy or live in a pretty castle.
We don’t have to talk all day or find ways to laugh in every waking moment.
I just wish you could sit with me, and we can quietly watch the way the grass grow. Because even then, I know that I’ll still have the best day with you. 🙂

And so this is the game we play
Sparks, passion, heartbeats, and fire.
Lots, and lots of burning fire.

“What makes you think you deserve more, if you can’t appreciate what you have right now?”

Beautiful, vibrant, and full of warmth
Dances freely along with the wind
But isn’t ironic, that one of the most beautiful of all creations…
Is made to be ultimately untouchable?

I never liked the way the grey sky looks
But it’s in the storm I found
A strength greater than the world
That lifted me up ever so gently,
And taught me what it is to be still.
I never wished for fire
But it’s in that desperation I felt
A hope that is unlike any other
That enveloped me in warmth,
And led me to the path of courage.
I never wanted to be tossed by the waves
But it’s in the seconds before I drowned
That I realized I was anchored
Protected in an unshakable grip,
And knew what it is to be saved.

It is not light that we need, but fire.
It is not the gentle shower, but thunder.
We need the storm, the whirlwind, and the earthquake.
Sometimes I wonder if plowing hard for work is worth it. And I often dream that I can escape to a faraway land, live in the midst of a beautiful green rice field or the ocean, spending my days doing nothing but collecting seashells. And how wonderful and carefree would that be?
But then I remind myself that humans are designed to do work. We are gifted with intelligence in order to solve problems, blessed with creativity in order to create, and empowered with the strength to run a race of endurance… If we choose to.
